Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Steel Procurement and Materials Controller to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will oversee the procurement of all steel materials, buying box section, tube, plate, sheet; negotiating with suppliers, manage inventory levels, and co-ordinate logistics to ensure seamless supply chain operations. Your expertise will help optimise material availability, reduce costs, and support our commitment to delivering high-quality solutions to our clients. Role would suit someone from a steel stockholder or a fabrication background
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process for steel materials using ERP systems
- Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules
- Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials to production sites
- Monitor inventory levels continuously and place orders proactively to prevent shortages or excess stock
- Maintain accurate procurement records and update ERP systems regularly for transparency and reporting
- Collaborate with supply chain teams to optimize procurement strategies and improve overall efficiency
- Conduct supplier evaluations and develop strong relationships to foster reliable partnerships
Experience
- Proven experience in procurement or materials management within manufacturing or heavy industry sectors
- Strong familiarity with ERP platforms
- Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of securing advantageous supplier agreements
- Knowledge of logistics operations and supply chain management principles
- Ability to analyze data effectively to forecast needs and streamline procurement processes
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and reporting
