At Skanska, we’re shaping the way we live, work and connect. As one of the world’s largest construction and development companies, we work together with customers, communities and partners to shape a better society.
You will be working in the Technology & Sustainability enabling function where we harness digital transformation and innovation to meet ambitious climate goals and deliver sustainable solutions for our customers.
We are currently looking for a Senior Environmental Sustainability Manager to join us on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract, working 3 days per week. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a visible role in shaping the environmental sustainability agenda across a diverse portfolio of projects.
You’ll work closely with our clients, customers and consultants to understand what matters most to them and help turn those ambitions into meaningful action. From supporting bids and tenders to guiding live projects, you’ll make sure environmental priorities are embedded throughout delivery.
You’ll also help create the right conditions for success by leading on environmental compliance, risk management, certifications and carbon requirements, while building and supporting a strong environmental team across the project lifecycle.
This role would suit someone who enjoys combining strategic thinking, relationship-building and practical delivery to make a genuine difference.
The role currently covers projects in our regional portfolio including locations in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Surrey with potential projects in Gloucestershire, Suffolk and Slough.
As the Senior Environmental Sustainability Manager, you will:
- Lead and support the environment team across a portfolio of projects, while contributing to wider opportunities as needed.
- Support the successful mobilisation of new projects, helping to embed strong environmental practices from the outset; play a key role in the early works phase of our NHP Programme, ensuring environmental priorities are built in early.
- Set the direction for environmental sustainability across multiple projects, aligning delivery with customer, regulatory and Skanska priorities.
- Take ownership of compliance with key environmental sustainability requirements, including BREEAM, WELL, NABERS and other building-specific certifications.
- Manage project-level environmental sustainability budgets, resource planning and forecasting to support effective delivery.
We are looking for:
- Passionate about sustainable building, with a strong track record of delivering environmental strategy and compliance on complex projects.
- Experienced in delivering environmental certifications, including BREEAM, WELL and NABERS.
- Skilled at leading and developing people, with experience mentoring environmental professionals and strengthening team capability.
- An excellent communicator, able to influence clients, colleagues and external partners to achieve shared environmental goals.
- A collaborative leader who works effectively across functions and champions a culture of responsibility and continuous improvement.
- Commercially aware, with a sound understanding of contractual requirements and experience working with customers and consultants.
- Solutions-focused and proactive, with the ability to anticipate challenges, manage risk and deliver practical outcomes.
What we offer:
- 24/7 digital GP service for you and your family
- Financial wellbeing and employee assistance
- Professional development
- Enhanced family benefits (including maternity, paternity, dependants and parental bereavement leave)
