As a Cask Handler, you’ll be at the heart of our whisky maturation process—moving, filling, and caring for casks to ensure every drop ages to perfection. This is a hands‑on, physical role that plays a vital part in producing the whisky we’re proud to share with the world.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in warehouse operations, mechanical work, or construction to develop their skills in a dynamic and traditional environment. You’ll help maintain high standards of safety, organisation, and productivity across all warehouse activities.
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Cask Handler to join our team. The successful candidate will operate cask‑filling equipment efficiently and support wider warehouse operations to ensure smooth and effective workflow.
Responsibilities
- Move, roll, lift, and position whisky casks safely using manual handling techniques and mechanical equipment
- Fill casks with spirit according to production schedules
- Disgorge (empty) casks for bottling or further processing
- Take samples from casks for quality checks and record‑keeping
- Maintain accurate logs of cask movements, fills, disgorges, and stock levels
- Inspect casks for leaks, damage, or quality issues and report findings promptly
- Apply and remove bungs, stencils, labels, and identification markings
- Operate forklifts, pallet trucks, or cask‑handling machinery (where trained)
- Stack and organise casks within traditional dunnage or racked warehouses
- Follow HMRC compliance procedures and internal audit requirements
- Uphold strict health and safety standards at all times
- Support general warehouse duties, cleaning, and housekeeping tasks
- Work collaboratively with warehouse, production and distillery teams
Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a whisky warehouse, distillery, cooperage, or similar production environment
- Knowledge of whisky maturation processes, cask types, and warehouse operations
- Forklift licence or experience operating warehouse machinery (desirable but not essential)
- Manual handling training or experience in physically demanding roles
- Understanding of HMRC compliance requirements for bonded warehouses
- Experience with stock control systems or digital inventory tools
- Basic mechanical aptitude for identifying cask faults such as leaks or damaged hoops
- Health & Safety training, including awareness of COSHH and safe working practices
- Experience working in traditional dunnage warehouses or modern racked warehouses
- Familiarity with sampling procedures and quality‑control checks
- Strong teamwork background, ideally in a production or logistics setting
Working Hours
- Monday to Thursday – 8am to 5pm
- Friday – 8am to 1pm
- 39 hours per week
