Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Grounds Operative to join our team in maintaining and enhancing outdoor environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of landscaping, gardening, and maintenance tasks, ensuring that all grounds are kept in pristine condition. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for horticulture and outdoor work to develop their skills within a dynamic environment.
Main Purpose of Role:
To undertake maintenance to the council's landholdings and related assets for the purpose of delivering the council's work plan in respect of those services. The post holder will report to the Assets & Open Spaces Officer at ETC.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. To represent the Town Council in all areas of its open space provisions, as required, and ensure that all work is carried out safely and to the highest quality, meeting both Eastleigh TC and residents’ expectations.
2. To be responsible for undertaking grounds maintenance services on the Council's landholdings, including on Nature Reserves, Amenity Sites, Recreation Grounds, Play Areas and so on.
3. To conduct general maintenance tasks such as debris clearance and seasonal clean-ups.
4. Use a wide and diverse range of hand tools and powered horticultural machinery, including ride-on machinery, as well as equipment such as hedge cutters, brush cutters and so on, to ensure exceptional standards are achieved.
5. To be responsible for protecting, conserving and enhancing biodiversity on Council land.
6. To identify and highlight infra-structure shortcomings around the town.
7. To keep the Assets & Open Spaces Officer advised of all issues identified during the course of day-to-day activities and work streams and any other areas which have a direct influence on the services and facilities being provided.
8. To be mindful and always adhere to the Council’s health and safety processes and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective clothing and equipment.
9. Undertake, in conjunction with the Assets & Open Spaces Officer weekend cover of sites as required, to ensure they are safe and well maintained.
10. To follow the maintenance specifications of work laid down and agreed by the Council whilst working on sites to ensure delivery of required standards.
11. To be aware off and follow any guidance contained within all risk assessments for all sites maintained by ETC.
12. To ensure that all ETC vehicles and machinery used by the Operative is well looked after, kept clean inside and out at all times and to report any issues immediately upon noticing to the Assets & Open Spaces Officer.
General:
13. The Grounds Operative will be required to pursue a programme of continuous professional development, which will be provided and funded by ETC.
14. To undertake non-grounds maintenance tasks requested of the team by the Town Clerk and /or Assets & Open Spaces Officer from time to time but in particular during the Autumn / Winter period. This could include general maintenance activities in any location within the ETC area as directed.
15. To assist the Assets & Open Spaces Officer in managing and maintaining the Council’s depot, ensuring that it is secure, clean, organized, tidy and well always looked after, presenting a professional image to the outside world of ETC as a business.
16. To attend and assist with Town Council events as required.
17. To effectively communicate and work closely with colleagues and a dedicated team across sites in Eastleigh, including parks, open spaces and cemeteries.
18. Work toward being a Team Leader in ETC and be a part of the leadership team in always ensuring smooth operations.
19. To have and maintain a full driving license.
Pay: £26,403.00-£28,607.00 per year
