The Gower School, based in Islington London are looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Chef Manager to complement the primary school kitchen team.
This is a permanent, full time position.
Hours: 40 hours per week, 48 weeks per year (this is not a term time role),
Monday-Friday, 7.00am-4.00pm.
Salary: £37,000 – £40,000 per annum
Start date: June 2026
As the Primary Chef Manager you will be responsible for providing daily food service and supervising a small team consisting of 1 chef and 2 general assistants whilst reporting to the Head of Hospitality and Catering. The school is very much food focused, and offers a diverse vegetarian menu feeding approximately 200 people daily.
With this in mind, it is essential that the Primary Chef Manager shows passion and a flair for food and cooking, as well as very high standards of service.
Experience in contract/education catering is essential, as is holding all appropriate qualifications and knowledge in food safety, health & safety and allergen/dietary management. This is a unique opportunity, working directly for a distinguished school that takes pride in its happy and positive atmosphere.
Key responsibilities:
- Daily cooking and service of the weekly vegetarian lunch menu
- Compliance and management of all food safety, allergen and health & safety policies
- Managing a small team of 3
- Assisting in menu creation and theme day offerings
- Occasionally working at the nursery kitchen site, which is 2 miles away
