The New Morley Arms is a welcoming, family-run pub in Plymstock, Plymouth. Having recently reopened under new management, we've already begun building a fantastic reputation for our friendly atmosphere, great drinks, and exciting events. Now we're looking for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to take the lead in launching our food offering and creating a kitchen that the local community can be proud of.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with fresh ideas, creativity, and a genuine passion for great pub food. You'll have the chance to shape the menu, build the kitchen team, and play a key role in establishing the New Morley Arms as a go-to destination for quality food as well as great hospitality.
The Role:
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, including food preparation, menu planning, ordering, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and hygiene. You’ll lead by example, keeping a calm head under pressure while motivating and developing your team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee all kitchen operations.
- Lead, train, and support the kitchen team to deliver consistent, high-quality dishes.
- Create and develop menus and specials using fresh, seasonal ingredients.
- Take responsibility for ordering, stock control, and supplier management.
- Ensure all food hygiene and safety standards are met.
- Work closely with management to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain portion control, minimise waste, and manage kitchen costs effectively.
About You:
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a busy pub or restaurant.
- Strong leadership and communication skills – a genuine team player.
- Creative and passionate about producing great food.
- Organised, reliable, and able to work well under pressure.
- Good understanding of costings, ordering systems, and kitchen management.
- Food Hygiene Level 3 (minimum) required.
