The Head of HSEQW will support and oversee the operation of company systems and processes covering the effective management of Health, Safety, Environmental, Wellbeing & Quality throughout the Company.
Head of HSEQW must understand, adhere to and implement the necessary HSEQW Policies and Procedures as well as Safe Systems of Work and Safe Operating Procedures as necessary.
Key Responsibilities include:
Providing proactive support and guidance to the Company Directors and Employees on compliance, statutory requirements and company standards.
Keeping up to date with relevant Legislation, upcoming changes and best practices within the industry and implementing such changes into the business.
Maintaining the Integrated Management System and Management System Manual to align with all Company ISO accreditations.
Liaising with Authorities and external agencies as required e.g., Health & Safety Executive, Environment Agency and Building Safety Regulator.
Chairing and minuting various meetings in alignment with requirements of our Integrated
Management System E.g. Management Review Meetings and Engineers Meetings. Head of HSEQW is expected to follow up on any actions that may arise as a result of these meetings, and log them for suitable close-out.
Head of HSEQW is expected to attend adhoc meetings (both virtually and in person), with Clients, Employees and Directors and liaising with them in a professional manner.
Ensure all HSEQW policies, procedures and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated throughout the Company at all levels.
Producing, reviewing, updating and communicating Safe Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Rescue Plans and Safe Systems of Work documentation.
Ensure adequate HSEQW guidance and training is provided throughout the business at all levels.
Maintaining and continuously monitoring the Company’s Training Matrix in terms of Health & Safety training. Ensuring such requirements are completed and in date for Employee’s dependant on their roles and responsibilities within the Company.
Scheduling regular Toolbox Talks on the tracker with both Engineering Teams and Office employees. Site Supervisors and other Managers may assist with issuing TBTS onsite. However, HSEQW is expected to be involved in delivering all TBTs to Office personnel.
Conducting Site Audits/Reviews and creating Action Plans where necessary to maintain Company and Client expectations.
Work closely with the Business Unit Head to ensure that an annual Audit Schedule is planned and maintained in accordance with current sites and requirements.
Ensure that Projects and Maintenance projects are also visited and audited – this differs on each project due to nature and duration of works and whether it falls within CDM requirements.
Liaising with Sub-Contractors when onsite or conducting Sub-Contractor audits.
Having a good, firm understanding of CDM:2015 Regulations. Specifically, the roles of Principal
Designer and Principal Contractor. The Head of HSEQW will be required to produce Construction Phase Plans together with other supporting documentation in accordance with Regulations and conduct regular site safety inspections throughout the duration of the Project.
Submitting of F10’s to the HSE on notifiable projects.
Supporting both Projects and Maintenance teams by creating and managing RAMS using our designated portal across all our contracted developments and Projects.
Producing and maintaining COSHH Assessments on the RAMS portal and ensuring Material Safety Data Sheets are available across our sites. HSEQW should have a good understanding of the COSHH Regulations 2002.
Undertaking Head Office Risk Assessments/Inspections and ensuring overall compliance with Regulations and ISO standards.
Maintaining the Integrated Management System to ensure compliance to the standards of ISO:9001, ISO:45001, ISO:45003 and ISO:14001 whilst maintaining good communication with the certification body BSI.
Lead Auditing skills are essential – you will be the main point of contact for external audits for the ISO Standards mentioned above. This includes monitoring any corrective actions by logging them, taking necessary action(s) and closing out promptly and efficiently.
Maintaining Company Memberships including CHAS Elite, Constructionline Gold, SSiP, SafeContractor, BSRIA, f-Gas Elite, FIA, Avetta, Achilles Gold and more.
Recording and where necessary, investigating Health, Safety & Environmental accidents, incidents or near misses no matter how minor they appear to be. Following investigation, the Head of HSEQW should identify the root cause(s), promote any lessons learned and implement changes to Policies & Procedures as required.
Head of HSEQW must understand the requirements for reporting to RIDDOR and be able to report incidents should it be deemed necessary.
Send out HSEQW Bulletins on relevant lessons learned or industry relatable information which could be beneficial to the business.
Ability to handle PHSW incidents - e.g. to investigate and liaise with HR if a concern is raised and report it anonymously on our Accident Incident & PHSW statistic log (a requirement of ISO:45003)
Requirement to use SimPro (our CAFM system) to produce Purchase Orders for certifications and memberships and any HSEQW related costs.
Monitoring the Company’s Objectives & Targets including environmental targets for the coming year and aligning with requirements of the Management System.
Assist with completion of PQQ’s and Tender opportunities where called upon to do so by Directors or Senior Management.
Maintain the company’s e-learning portal and issuing training based on role requirements – log any completed training in personnel files and on Company Training Matrix.
Setting up new files on the server for new starters to the company and assisting in their inductions.
Attend potential new sites and projects with management teams to give advice and provide HSEQW presence and knowledge.
Maintain the company-controlled documents and master log and ensure that change management processes are followed as necessary.
Understand requirements of Considerate Constructors Scheme audits and continue to develop initiatives and recommendations set out by CCS
Organise and apply for CSCS cards for team and management as required to ensure sufficient access to sites where CSCS/Skill cards are a statutory requirement.
Provide HSEQW forecast annual expenditure in collaboration with our accounts department (usually around March/April annually)

- Ability to lead ISO audits for 9001 (Quality), 45001 (OHS) and 14001 (Environmental) – we have ISO 45003 so that would also be advantageous but could be picked up if there is good knowledge around ISO:45001.
It would be advantageous for candidates to have experience in engineering or FM environments.

Pay: £60,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
