As an Apprentice HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Technician, you will embark on an exciting journey to develop your skills in maintaining and repairing large commercial vehicles. Duties
- Assist in the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of heavy goods vehicles and related equipment
- Support the fabrication and assembly of vehicle components using hand tools and power tools
- Learn to interpret schematics, electrical diagrams, and mechanical drawings for troubleshooting
- Perform welding, soldering, and fabrication tasks to repair or modify vehicle parts
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, brake inspections, and tyre replacements
- Be able to attend Manufacturers training courses and centres with occasional day/nights away from home training.
- Help maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and service history for each vehicle
Experience
- A strong interest in mechanical systems, electrical components, and vehicle technology
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, welding, soldering, and fabrication techniques
- Familiarity with schematics or technical diagrams is advantageous but not required; training will be provided
- Prior experience with electrical systems or mechanical assembly is a plus
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in physically demanding environments
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service when interacting with team members or clients
- Willingness to learn new skills quickly in a dynamic workshop setting
