Teaching Assistant
Location: Bury St Edmunds
Pay: £13.00–£14.00 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Contract: Term time only, with temp-to-perm opportunities
About the Role
We are recruiting caring, enthusiastic and reliable Teaching Assistants to join a friendly and supportive primary school in Bury St Edmunds.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with additional learning needs, helping them to build confidence, develop independence and achieve their individual learning goals.
Previous school experience is welcomed but not essential. Applicants with transferable experience from childcare, care, support work, youth work or mentoring are also encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils during lessons and classroom activities
- Working with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning
- Assisting the class teacher with lesson preparation and delivery
- Helping pupils remain engaged, focused and motivated
- Supporting pupils with literacy, numeracy and other curriculum activities
- Providing additional support to pupils who may require extra help
- Encouraging positive behaviour and respectful relationships
- Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills
- Preparing classroom resources and supporting classroom organisation
Requirements
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people
- A patient, positive and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliability, punctuality and a professional attitude
- Availability to work Monday to Friday during term time
- The right to work in the UK
- Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check, or an existing DBS registered on the Update Service
Desirable Experience
We would particularly welcome applicants with experience in:
- Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant roles
- SEN or specialist education settings
- Primary or secondary schools
- Nursery or early years environments
- Childcare
- Care or support work
- Youth work or mentoring
- Supporting individuals with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia or other additional needs
