The role of the Safe Working Hours Advisor is an integral part of the Medical Rostering Team in supporting the delivery of timely rota creation and e-Rostering across the medical workforce. The post holder will provide comprehensive support to all key staff involved in rostering including colleagues within medical staffing, clinical and operational staff as required. This role requires an ability to fully engage with the Trust clinical workforce to support the understanding and adaptation to, the effective use of e-Rostering tools. The rostering of medical staff and the creation of compliant effective rotas is imperative, without which the Trust cannot function effectively.

- Liaise with departments to create rotas that are both compliant with Terms & Conditions of service but also satisfy educational and operational needs. This will involve explaining complicated information with clinical and operational managers
- Use good rostering practice to develop rotas, to support and create an effective training environment for Resident Doctors in Training that also meets the needs of the service, while enabling flexibility for doctors and employers
- Support and advise Care Group Managers, senior clinicians and Doctors on the design and implementation of rotas and work schedules, including new approaches that achieve compliance ensuring safe staffing levels to protect patient safety
- Work with Medical Workforce, Doctors in Training, their representatives, and Divisional management teams to provide regular analysis of information to ensure that hours and work intensity are regularly and adequately reviewed
- Offer specialist advice to Medical and Dental staff and Divisional management teams to support safe rotas and the rostering of our medical workforce
- Devise creative and innovative solutions to ensure compliance and assist with strategic planning to meet Resident Doctor Contract and WTD targets by maintaining strong service knowledge and identifying issues that may impact on compliance
