The Opportunity
Are you an experienced debt recovery professional looking for an opportunity to broaden your expertise and take on greater responsibility?
Liberata is looking for a Debt Recovery Officer to join our Hounslow NDR Incentives team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the recovery of Non-Domestic Rate debt, working across the full recovery journey and using your knowledge, judgement and communication skills to achieve positive outcomes.
You’ll work in a fast-paced environment where no two cases are necessarily the same. From validating debts and managing accounts through the recovery process, to engaging with debtors, negotiating payment arrangements, tracing absconded debtors and making write-off recommendations, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your knowledge across a broad range of specialist recovery activity.
This role would suit someone who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership and working with a high level of accuracy, while also wanting to build their experience and develop within a specialist revenues and debt recovery environment.
What you’ll be doing:
As a Debt Recovery Officer, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of outstanding Non-Domestic Rate debt, proactively managing accounts throughout the recovery cycle and helping to maximise collection outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Proactively recovering outstanding Non-Domestic Rate debt through outbound contact, referral to debt collection agencies and County Court recovery
-
Validating debts at the start of the recovery process and ensuring accounts are accurate and appropriately managed
-
Taking ownership of accounts throughout the recovery journey, identifying the appropriate recovery action and progressing cases effectively
-
Building professional relationships with debtors, third parties and internal teams through clear and effective verbal and written communication
-
Investigating and responding to complex correspondence and queries relating to outstanding debt
-
Managing payment activity, including investigating returned or missing BACS payments and processing the issuing or cancellation of payments
-
Identifying cases requiring further action and preparing appropriate write-off recommendations
-
Using tracing techniques to locate absconded debtors and support successful recovery
-
Maintaining accurate records and ensuring all recovery activity is completed in line with relevant processes and requirements
-
Contributing to team performance by sharing knowledge, identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting a positive recovery culture
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for someone who combines technical knowledge with a proactive, customer-focused approach.
You’ll ideally have:
-
Previous experience of Non-Domestic Rate debt recovery
-
A good understanding of Non-Domestic Rate recovery regulations, processes and legislation
-
Experience using debt recovery and document management systems
-
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to accurately manage financial information and complex accounts
-
Good mathematical and analytical skills
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to deal professionally with a range of stakeholders
-
The ability to use initiative, investigate issues and make informed decisions
-
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
-
The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
-
A proactive approach and a genuine interest in achieving positive recovery outcomes
