We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to join our established team at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) – a purpose-built tertiary centre serving a population of 1.8 million.
The CTC delivers a comprehensive range of advanced cardiac services including primary PCI, electrophysiology, complex device therapy and a large TAVI programme, alongside a strong surgical portfolio including mitral valve and minimally invasive surgery.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-quality cardiac surgical service, working within a collaborative MDT environment, participating in a 1:7 on-call rota, and supporting elective and emergency care.
You will be expected to contribute to clinical governance, teaching, audit and service development, with dedicated time available for CPD and supporting professional activities.
We are looking for a motivated clinician with GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT) and a commitment to delivering excellent patient care.

Key responsibilities include:
Delivering elective and emergency cardiac surgery
Participating in the 1:7 on-call rota for cardiac surgical emergencies
Contributing to MDT discussions (3 times weekly) across the Essex cardiac network
Supporting post-operative care and ward-based management
Engaging in clinical governance, audit, and research
Contributing to education, supervision, and training of junior staff
You will join an established consultant team within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, supported by surgical fellows and surgical care practitioners
