Southdown Group is an established property maintenance and renovation company working with landlords, letting agents and private clients across Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and surrounding areas.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced, reliable Painter & Decorator to work with us on a full-time, self-employed basis.
This role suits someone who is confident working independently, takes pride in their finish and wants consistent, organised work with a structured diary.
Experience as a multi-skilled operative would be beneficial, particularly where this includes general property maintenance, minor repairs and finishing works alongside decorating.
The Role
You’ll be carrying out predominantly painting and decorating works, along with associated preparation, finishing and minor maintenance tasks across a range of domestic properties.
Work is organised, scoped and managed by our office — no chasing work, quoting customers or invoicing.
You will be expected to attend jobs, complete the agreed decorating works to a high standard and keep the office updated through our job system.
Typical work includes:
- Internal painting and decorating
- Walls, ceilings, woodwork and doors
- Full room and property redecoration
- Preparation, filling, sanding and making good
- Stain blocking and water-damage redecoration
- Caulking, silicone and finishing works
- Minor plaster repairs and surface preparation
- Snagging and touch-up works
- Rental property turnaround decorating
- Strip-outs and preparation work
- Material collection where required
- Supporting other trades where necessary
What We’re Looking For
- Strong painting and decorating experience
- Confident working independently
- Good understanding of preparation and finishing
- Able to produce a consistently neat, professional finish
- Multi-skilled property maintenance experience would be beneficial
- Reliable and punctual
- Takes pride in completing jobs properly, first time
- Good attention to detail
- Able to work cleanly in occupied properties
- Comfortable following a system using a job app, updates and photographs
- Good communication with the office
- Full UK driving licence
- Own van, decorating tools and PPE
This role does not suit someone who:
- Wants to work casually or inconsistently
- Cuts corners on preparation
- Rushes jobs or lacks attention to detail
- Needs constant supervision
- Is only looking for occasional decorating work
- Is unreliable with attendance or start times
- Is unwilling to use a job app or provide updates and photographs
- Wants to fit our work around their own private jobs
Pay & Earnings
- £20.00–£25.00 per hour depending on experience
- Paid monthly
- Fuel contribution where applicable
