We are seeking an exceptional leader for our Wellington Centre who can build strong teams, maintain high standards and drive continuous improvement whilst creating a positive and supportive culture for children, families and staff.
This is not a role for someone looking simply to maintain the status quo.
We are looking for a leader who takes ownership, embraces accountability and is passionate about delivering outstanding early years practice.
The Role
The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Wellington Centre, ensuring the highest standards of care, education, safeguarding, compliance and operational effectiveness.
You will be responsible for leading and developing the team, ensuring consistency in practice and creating a culture where staff are supported, challenged and held accountable.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management
- Lead, inspire and manage the staff team.
- Create a culture of professionalism, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular supervisions, observations and performance reviews.
- Address underperformance promptly and professionally.
- Support staff wellbeing whilst maintaining clear expectations and standards.
- Lead by example and be visible within the setting.
Quality of Practice
- Ensure high-quality teaching and learning throughout the setting.
- Monitor children's progress and outcomes.
- Ensure the curriculum is implemented effectively.
- Support staff development through coaching and mentoring.
- Drive continuous quality improvement.
Safeguarding
- Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy DSL.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are robust and consistently followed.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Promote a culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with EYFS requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Oversee health and safety systems.
- Monitor staff qualifications, training and suitability.
- Ensure policies and procedures are embedded in practice.
Team Development
- Support recruitment, induction and onboarding of new staff.
- Build a strong and stable team.
- Identify training needs and support professional development.
- Promote a positive and collaborative working environment.
Parent Partnerships
- Build strong relationships with families.
- Handle concerns and complaints professionally.
- Maintain excellent communication with parents.
- Promote a welcoming and supportive culture.
Operational Management
- Manage occupancy and staffing ratios.
- Oversee rotas and staffing deployment.
- Monitor budgets and resources in conjunction with senior leadership.
- Ensure the smooth running of the setting on a daily basis.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Early Years Qualification (minimum).
- Level 5 qualification or willingness to work towards.
- Significant experience leading teams within an early years setting.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage difficult conversations confidently and professionally.
- Strong understanding of the EYFS and Ofsted expectations.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
