HGV Mechanic – £50,000 + Overtime

The Role
Horrocks Waste Management is looking for an experienced and fully qualified HGV Mechanic to take responsibility for maintaining our fleet of HGVs and plant machinery.
This is a hands-on role covering planned maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and repairs. The successful candidate will play an important part in keeping our vehicles and equipment safe, compliant and operational.
Main Responsibilities
- Service, maintain and repair our HGV fleet.
- Conduct scheduled 8-week safety inspections.
- Complete pre-MOT inspections and prepare vehicles for testing.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
- Use Jaltest diagnostic software.
- Carry out tyre and puncture repairs.
- Maintain and repair plant machinery and hydraulic systems.
- Keep accurate inspection, servicing and repair records.
- Identify defects and ensure they are dealt with promptly.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and organised workshop.
- Follow all health and safety procedures.
- Manage workshop parts, tools and servicing requirements.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent recognised HGV qualification.
- At least five years’ experience working as an HGV mechanic.
- Experience completing HGV safety inspections and pre-MOT inspections.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic experience.
- Experience using Jaltest diagnostic software.
- Experience with plant machinery and hydraulic systems.
- The ability to carry out tyre and puncture repairs.
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
- The ability to work independently and take responsibility for the workshop.
Please note that the Level 3 HGV qualification and minimum five years’ relevant experience are essential for this position.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous but is not essential:
- Category C/Class 2 HGV licence.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Experience maintaining skip trucks and hook loaders.
- Experience with waste-management or similar heavy-duty vehicles.
Pay and Benefits
- £50,000 annual salary.
- Overtime paid at £30.00 per hour.
- £500 joining bonus after successfully completing the three-month probationary period.
