Day Tour Host – Heritage Day Tours
£150 per completed tour day | Part-Time / Zero-Hours | Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
About Heritage Day Tours
Heritage Day Tours is a new premium day tour company based in Buckinghamshire, offering carefully organised days out to some of England’s most beautiful, interesting and historic destinations.
Our tours are particularly designed with older adults in mind, with a strong focus on comfort, companionship, excellent organisation and genuinely warm customer service.
We are looking for friendly, confident and dependable Day Tour Hosts to become the face of Heritage Day Tours and help us deliver an exceptional experience for our guests.
The Role
As a Day Tour Host, you will accompany guests throughout the tour aboard a premium coach or minibus and help ensure the entire day runs smoothly from departure through to return.
This is not a traditional tour guide role. You will not be expected to deliver lengthy historical talks or specialist commentary.
Instead, your role is about people - welcoming our guests, creating a friendly and sociable atmosphere, communicating clearly and making sure everyone feels comfortable, included and well looked after throughout their day with Heritage.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Arriving at the Aylesbury departure point before guests arrive
- Warmly welcoming and checking in guests
- Introducing yourself and explaining the day's itinerary
- Making clear and confident announcements to the group
- Creating a friendly, relaxed and sociable atmosphere
- Helping solo travellers and new guests feel welcome and included
- Keeping the tour running according to schedule
- Liaising with the coach driver and Heritage Day Tours team
- Conducting headcounts and ensuring all guests are accounted for before departures
- Providing light assistance and reassurance where appropriate
- Helping distribute complimentary refreshments
- Answering guests' questions
- Taking photographs during the day where appropriate
- Dealing calmly and professionally with minor issues or unexpected situations
- Representing Heritage Day Tours professionally throughout the day
- Helping create an experience that our guests will want to enjoy again
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is naturally warm, personable, confident and genuinely enjoys being around people.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Friendly, patient and approachable
- An excellent communicator
- Confident speaking in front of groups
- Comfortable and confident interacting with older adults
- Reliable and punctual
- Well presented and professional
- Organised and able to follow an itinerary
- Calm and sensible when dealing with unexpected situations
- Able to work independently and use good judgement
- Someone who genuinely enjoys conversation and meeting new people
Previous experience in hospitality, tourism, aviation, healthcare, teaching, events, customer service, community work or working with older adults would be advantageous, but is not essential.
For us, personality, reliability and the ability to make people feel genuinely welcome are more important than having previously worked as a tour host.
Important – Early Morning Availability
Our tours will generally depart from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and some tours will require early morning starts.
Hosts must be able to reliably travel to the designated Aylesbury departure point before guests begin arriving and before the scheduled coach departure.
Please consider your ability to travel to Aylesbury for early starts before applying, particularly if you are reliant on public transport.
Working With Heritage Day Tours
This is a flexible, part-time, zero-hours position. Tour dates will vary and may include weekdays and weekends.
Hosts will be offered available tour dates and can accept dates according to their availability.
Successful candidates will receive:
- £150 per completed tour day
- Heritage Day Tours uniform
- Training and briefing before your first tour
- A detailed itinerary for each trip
- Travel throughout the tour at no cost
- Refreshments and/or food while working where provided as part of the tour
- Flexible opportunities to accept tour dates according to availability
- Opportunity for more regular work as Heritage Day Tours grows
- The opportunity to visit a variety of destinations across England as part of your work
