An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheshire West and Chester Council's Finance Service as a Career Grade Finance Officer / Finance Manager (Grade 10–12).

This career grade post provides a structured pathway for progression from Finance Officer (Grade 10) to Finance Manager (Grade 12), enabling the successful candidate to develop the technical, strategic and leadership skills required for a senior finance role within local government.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience across a range of accountancy disciplines and service areas within the Finance Service. Working closely with a variety of finance teams and budget managers, the postholder will build a broad understanding of local government finance, providing financial support, advice and challenge to help services achieve their objectives and deliver value for money.

The role will involve supporting key financial processes including budget setting, year-end accounts, financial analysis, business partnering and support to major transformation programmes. As experience and responsibilities develop, the successful candidate will have opportunities to lead on more complex pieces of work, manage projects and contribute to the development of financial strategies and service improvements.
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious individual with experience of working within a within a local government or public sector finance environment. You will possess strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills, together with the ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate it clearly and effectively to a range of audiences.
You will be a confident communicator who can build productive relationships with colleagues, managers and stakeholders across the organisation. Strong Excel and financial modelling skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to demanding deadlines.
This role is particularly suited to an individual who is looking to take the next step in their career and progress into a leadership role. We are looking for someone who demonstrates initiative, a commitment to continuous improvement and a desire to develop the skills, behaviours and experience required to become a future Finance Manager. The successful candidate will be supported in their professional development, including the completion of a recognised accountancy qualification where required, and will benefit from opportunities to develop leadership and management capabilities.
