Deputy Manager – Residential Care Home
We are looking for an experienced, reliable and motivated Deputy Manager to join our residential care team.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Registered Manager to support the safe and effective day-to-day running of the service. You will provide leadership to staff, oversee care delivery and help ensure residents receive safe, person-centred and high-quality support.
Our service supports adults who may have mental health needs, mild learning disabilities, rehabilitation needs and require support with daily living.
Main Responsibilities
- Supporting the Registered Manager with the day-to-day management of the home
- Leading, supervising and supporting care staff during shifts
- Ensuring residents receive safe, respectful and person-centred care
- Reviewing and updating care plans, risk assessments and support plans
- Monitoring residents' health, wellbeing and changing needs
- Overseeing medication administration and medication records
- Completing and monitoring audits, daily records and care documentation
- Supporting staff supervision, competency checks, training and development
- Assisting with staff rotas, shift cover, sickness and attendance management
- Supporting staff induction and ensuring mandatory training is completed
- Managing safeguarding concerns, incidents and accidents appropriately
- Supporting investigations and ensuring appropriate actions are followed
- Maintaining high standards of infection control, health and safety and safeguarding
- Supporting quality assurance and compliance within the service
- Helping ensure the home meets CQC requirements and regulations
- Communicating professionally with residents, relatives, social workers, GPs and other healthcare professionals
- Supporting admissions, assessments and reviews where required
- Promoting residents' dignity, independence, choice and wellbeing
- Acting as the senior person in charge when the Registered Manager is unavailable
- Participating in on-call duties where required
The Ideal Candidate Will
- Have previous experience working in health and social care
- Have experience as a Senior Care Assistant, Team Leader, Deputy Manager or similar supervisory role
- Have strong leadership and communication skills
- Be confident managing and supporting staff
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding, medication, care planning and risk assessment
- Understand CQC standards and expectations within residential care
- Be organised and confident completing care documentation and audits
- Be able to respond calmly and professionally to challenging situations
- Be flexible and willing to work days, nights, weekends and bank holidays where required
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Be willing to complete an enhanced DBS check
Qualifications
The following would be desirable:
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 or above in Health and Social Care
- Level 4 or Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Adult Care
- Care Certificate
- Medication Training
- Safeguarding Training
- PMVA or other relevant behavioural-support training
Candidates working towards a relevant management qualification may also be considered depending on their experience.
