We're a small, friendly team looking for a practical, hardworking and reliable Assistant Groundworker / Semi-Skilled Labourer to work alongside our highly experienced groundworker on a variety of exciting construction projects. From your first day, you'll be involved in real site work, gaining valuable hands-on experience while developing your skills across all aspects of groundwork and civil engineering.
Applicants with an agricultural or farming background are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience operating machinery such as tractors, telehandlers or excavators is highly valued and can provide an excellent foundation for a successful career in groundwork.
Our two main projects are the construction of a new agricultural grain store near Blofield, followed by a substantial new-build house with a basement in High Kelling, including all the associated groundworks, civils, and drainage for both along other developments as needed. Unlike many groundwork roles, you’ll be learning from an experienced professional every single day, gaining valuable hands-on experience across all aspects of the trade.
This is a genuine opportunity to build a long-term career in groundwork, with real scope to grow, take on more responsibility, and develop your skills.
What you’ll be doing
- Working alongside our experienced groundworker on the grain store and, subsequently, the house with a basement
- Carrying out the associated groundworks, civils, and drainage across both projects
- General groundwork and site preparation: excavation, trenching, levelling, backfilling, and compacting
- Preparing foundations and sub-bases, and setting out, digging, and finishing
- Installing and connecting drainage systems
- Operating plant and machinery safely and responsibly, where qualified and competent
- Loading and unloading materials, and keeping the site tidy, organised, and safe
- Working as part of a small team to get jobs done to a high standard
What we’re looking for
- Experience in groundwork or agriculture
- Experience with drainage
- Confident and experienced in driving and operating machinery
- Physically fit and healthy, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather, this is an active role
- A strong work ethic and a genuine desire to learn and improve
- Reliable, punctual, and a good team player with solid site-safety awareness
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel between Sites is essential.
If you’re practical, hardworking, enjoy working outdoors, and want to develop a rewarding career in groundwork and construction, we’d love to hear from you. We are an equal opportunities employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all.
