The Role: Self-Employed Driver (Vehicle Collections & Appraisals)
We are looking for professional, reliable self-employed drivers to collect vehicles from private customers, complete basic appraisals on-site and deliver the vehicles to our trade partners.
Key responsibilities:
- Collect vehicles from customers’ homes and other locations.
- Carry out visual and basic mechanical appraisals (bodywork, tyres, interior, warning lights, service history, etc.).
- Confirm the vehicle matches the agreed description and highlight any issues.
- Where problems are found, support our buyers by explaining these to the customer and helping to agree any price adjustment.
- Drive vehicles to main dealers and car supermarkets, or to our nominated locations.
- Travel either:
- Locally with another driver (using a second car), or
- By train for longer-distance collections (e.g. to and from London).
- Complete basic paperwork / digital forms and ensure smooth handover.
What We’re Looking For
- Self-employed status (or willingness to work on a self-employed basis).
- Full UK driving licence (ideally clean) and confident driving a range of vehicles.
- Good knowledge of used cars; basic mechanical/technical understanding is highly desirable.
- Smart, professional appearance and strong customer service skills.
- Friendly and approachable, but confident enough to be firm where a car is not as described.
- Attention to detail when checking and appraising vehicles.
- Flexible approach to working hours:
- Mix of short local runs and occasional long days (e.g. to London and back).
- Early starts and some weekend work as required.
- Comfortable using public transport (especially early trains) for collections.
