Key Purpose of Role:
An opportunity has arisen for the role of Maintenance Officer in the student village at Ulster University, Jordanstown. The Maintenance Officer will be responsible for carrying out both planned and response works required to repair, maintain and improve the residential accommodation and facilities whilst ensuring an excellent customer experience at all times. Supporting record keeping, audits/inspections, and maintaining stock levels. The successful candidate will be required to attend occasional out of hours emergencies on site.
General Responsibilities & Duties Include:
- Checking rooms are ready and acceptable for arriving students/guests.
- Checking rooms for defects and/or damages at the end of each academic semester/year or following the departure of a guest.
- Checking family rooms for defects and/or damages at regular intervals during occupation (by appointment).
- Dealing with legitimate ad hoc or emergency complaints in respect of the maintenance to/or condition of the fabric or finishes of the accommodation facilities.
- Adhering to agreed response times in respect of legitimate complaints.
- Keeping records of vandalism or incidences of breaches of the Residence Agreement.
- Keeping records of complaints.
- Managing/overseeing team members and sub-contractors working on site.
- Ensure all areas of site remain safe, clean and tidy.
- Maintain security devices, locks and lights in good working order.
- Adhering to company’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Any other duties reasonably required.

Essential Skills & Experience:
- Demonstrable ability within building maintenance e.g. patch repair plastering, painting, fitting shelves etc.
- At least 1 year relevant maintenance experience
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- NVQ or equivalent in a relevant subject such as joinery or building
- A relevant health and safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH
- IPAF certificate
- Understanding of principles of electrical safety
- Understanding of water systems including domestic plumbing and legionella
