Pensions Officer
Permanent Contract - 37 hours per week
Grade 11 - £47,181 per annum
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is seeking to appoint an experienced Pensions Officer with specialist knowledge and understanding of pension schemes to provide a flexible, professional, and high-quality pensions administration service. The role will support the effective management of the Firefighters' Pension Schemes and the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the contract between the Authority and its Pension Administration Service provider, ensuring the delivery of an efficient and effective service to scheme members and prospective members. The postholder will also support the Firefighters' Pension Board by overseeing and coordinating the high standard of administration required to meet governance and regulatory obligations.
Working closely with Finance and HR colleagues, the Pensions Officer will provide expert advice and guidance on pension-related matters, delivering excellent customer service and continually seeking opportunities to improve service delivery and member experience.
The ideal candidate will have a sound working knowledge of pension administration and relevant legislation, together with strong interpersonal and communication skills. They will be able to explain complex pension information clearly and confidently to scheme members and internal stakeholders, as well as effectively manage projects and relationships with key service providers.
Previous experience of the Firefighters' Pension Schemes would be advantageous; however, training will be provided for candidates with pension expertise who are unfamiliar with Fire Service pension arrangements.
The post is located at Service Headquarters, Shrewsbury, providing free on-site parking. The opportunity for hybrid working will be considered for this post.
