Junior Clerk (Clerk to Counsel)
Location: Seaton - Devon
Hours: Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 5.30pm (or as required)
Reporting to: Senior Clerk
We are recruiting for a Junior Clerk to join a busy and professional barrister clerking team working at our admin office in Seaton, Devon. Our barristers offer legal services throughout England & Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in clerking and practice management within the legal sector. On-site 5 days week.
The Role
The successful candidate will provide an effective and efficient practice management service, supporting barristers and clerks to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of chambers. You will play a key role in diary management, client liaison and court preparation working closely with the Senior Clerk and other Clerks.
Key Responsibilities
General Clerking Duties
- Providing a high-quality clerking and practice management service at all times
- Answering telephone and calls promptly and professionally
- Handling enquiries from solicitors, clients and third parties, ensuring accurate records are maintained
- Entering and managing bookings, digital papers and notes on the booking systems
- Managing barristers' diaries and ensuring accurate court listings, venues and timings
- Assisting with fee quotes, billing and fee chasing as directed by Senior Clerk
Additional Responsibilities
- Deputising for clerks during periods of absence, as agreed
- Supporting inter-team cooperation to ensure efficient service delivery
- Presenting a professional image of chambers at all times
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties required to support the practice management function

- IT literate and comfortable working with case management systems
