About datamills
At datamills, we believe IT support should feel personal.
For over 15 years we've been helping businesses across South Yorkshire remove the stress from technology, allowing them to focus on running their businesses whilst we look after everything IT.
From managed support and Microsoft 365 through to networking, cyber security, cloud solutions and infrastructure projects, we become a trusted extension of the organisations we work with.
Unlike larger support providers, our clients know exactly who they're speaking to. We take time to understand how each business operates, build long-term relationships and provide straightforward advice without unnecessary jargon.
As our business continues to grow, we're now looking for an IT Technician to join our close-knit technical team, supporting our clients day to day whilst also getting involved in a varied range of IT projects.
What might a typical week look like?
This isn't a role where you'll spend every day simply working through support tickets.
You'll combine day-to-day client support with site visits, installations and a varied range of technical projects.
Depending on what our clients need, your week could include:
- Providing remote IT support, troubleshooting technical issues and resolving faults for a wide range of clients.
- Visiting client sites across the region to install hardware, deliver projects and provide hands-on technical support.
- Setting up and configuring laptops, desktops, Microsoft 365, Exchange and Azure environments.
- Supporting networking, infrastructure and hardware installation projects.
- Getting involved in cyber security projects, including Cyber Essentials, password management and cyber awareness solutions.
- Monitoring systems, proactively identifying issues and helping to maintain secure, reliable IT environments.
- Working alongside colleagues to troubleshoot more complex technical challenges.
- Supporting client projects from initial planning and preparation through to implementation and completion.
- Researching new technologies and helping improve the services we offer.
- Building trusted relationships with the businesses we support and becoming someone our clients know they can rely on.
Travel to client sites will form part of the role where required, although the balance between office-based support and site visits will naturally vary depending on the needs of the business and our clients at the time.
A company pool car is available for business travel, so you will need to be able to drive.
Who could be right for this opportunity?
We're looking for someone already working in IT who wants greater variety, more exposure to different technologies and the opportunity to become increasingly involved in technical projects.
You may already be working within an IT Support, Helpdesk or Service Desk role and be ready for your next challenge, particularly if you're looking to move beyond purely reactive support and gain greater exposure to installations, infrastructure and client project work.
Equally, you may have gained experience within an internal IT department and be looking to broaden your exposure by supporting a range of different clients and technologies.
Ideally, you'll have at least one year's commercial IT experience.
Experience working within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) would be particularly beneficial, as the role involves supporting a diverse client base, working with ticketing systems and gaining exposure to a wide range of technologies and IT environments.
However, if your experience has been gained outside of an MSP setting but you can demonstrate a strong technical foundation, the ability to learn quickly and the confidence to adapt to new technologies, we'd still love to hear from you.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for someone who:
- Enjoys solving technical problems logically.
- Is naturally curious and enjoys learning new technologies.
- Can communicate confidently with customers.
- Takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.
- Is organised and pays attention to detail.
- Is comfortable balancing day-to-day support work with longer-term projects.
- Enjoys working both independently and as part of a small team.
- Is confident visiting client sites and working directly with customers.
- Holds a full UK driving licence and is happy travelling to client sites when required, mainly across the local area.
Experience with technologies such as Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Exchange Online, networking, hardware deployment, virtual machines, Windows Server or managed IT environments would certainly be beneficial.
However, we're more interested in finding someone with the right mindset, a strong technical foundation and a genuine passion for technology than someone who simply ticks every technical box.
Why join datamills?
- Join a friendly, close-knit Sheffield business where you'll quickly become a valued member of the team.
- Enjoy genuine variety, with a mixture of IT support, site work and project delivery.
- Become a trusted IT partner to local businesses, building long-term relationships rather than simply closing support tickets.
- Gain exposure to a wide range of technologies, projects and industries.
- Get involved in real client projects rather than being limited to first-line support.
- Receive ongoing training in the datamills approach, suppliers and technical solutions.
- Access supplier training programmes and external development opportunities as your career progresses.
- Work alongside experienced IT professionals who genuinely enjoy sharing knowledge.
- Be part of a business that values personal service just as much as technical expertise.
As datamills continues to grow, this role will continue to develop too.
You'll have the opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge, become involved in increasingly complex projects, take ownership of larger pieces of client work and, over time, lead on defined areas of project delivery as your confidence and experience grow.
Interested?
If you're reading this wondering whether you tick every single box...
Please apply anyway.
Whilst we're looking for candidates with at least one year's commercial IT experience, we're far more interested in someone with the right attitude, strong communication skills, logical problem-solving ability and a genuine willingness to continue learning than someone who simply matches every bullet point on a job description.
