We are expanding our Finance team in London to continue supporting our growing insurance businesses in the most effective way. The Financial Accountant will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong balance sheet control, and compliance within a regulated insurance environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Month-End Close
- Perform the month-end close process, including preparation, review, and posting of General Ledger (GL) journal entries, including transfer of balance from RiskServe to Workday (General Ledger)
- Ensure all month-end journals (accruals, prepayments, reclassifications, and adjustments) are accurate, complete, and posted within close deadlines.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and on a timely basis.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items promptly.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Produce timely and accurate profit and loss (P&L) analysis, explaining variances against prior periods and budgets.
- Analyse movements in selected balance sheet accounts and provide clear commentary.
- Support management reporting with accurate financial data and insights.
Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly regulatory returns, ensuring compliance with insurance and statutory reporting requirements ( FCA RMAR and Baseline resilience survey, ONS Reports, VAT)
- Support adherence to internal accounting policies and external regulatory standards.
Audit & Controls
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, schedules, and explanations as required.
- Assist in maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring audit points are addressed efficiently.
Stakeholder Management & Ad Hoc Work
- Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders, including auditors and advisors.
- Support ad hoc finance projects and initiatives as required across the business.
Process Improvement
- Actively contribute to strengthening the Finance function including continually identifying ways to improve processes, controls, reporting, and analysis, particularly within the month-end close and GL processes.
Key Skills & Experience
- Qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
- Insurance experience is required to be considered for this role
- Prior experience in financial accounting
- Strong understanding of general ledger, journal processing, and month-end close.
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliations and financial analysis.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Confident communicator with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and excel.
