MBDA is seeking an ambitious Mechanical Engineer to join our Calibration & Maintenance team in Bolton. This is a unique opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join a technically engaging environment supporting manufacturing across assembly, integration, and test.
Salary: Circa £44,000 depending on experience
Dynamic (hybrid) working: 5 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.
Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:
Working closely with production, quality, and engineering teams, you will ensure measurement accuracy and equipment performance at every stage of the build process. Your responsibilities will include:

Hands-on Support: Delivering mechanical/dimensional calibration for Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) and Special to Type Test Equipment (STTE) and responsible for the creation and maintenance of instruction sets and requirements.

Dimensional Inspection: Leading inspection activities, including updating CMM measurement programmes and providing feedback to key stakeholders.

Manufacturing Liaison: Providing day-to-day dimensional calibration and inspection support for manufacturing teams, fixtures, and tooling.

Technical Expertise: Acting as a key technical point of contact for dimensional calibration and inspection queries within manufacturing.

Continuous Improvement: Contributing to the evolution of measurement methods, processes, and repeatability.

Specialist Support: Supporting pressure calibration activities where required.
What we're looking for from you:
Essential:
-
Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant alternative) and extensive experience with the requirements below and demonstrated experience as a technical lead.

Proven practical experience in dimensional calibration, such as:
-
Micrometers / DTI's / Verniers
-
Plug/Thread / Ring Gauges
-
Sine Bars / Tables
-
Surface Tables / Plates
-
A strong understanding of the uncertainty of measurement.

Experience creating technical documentation & instructions.
Desirable:
-
A strong working knowledge of GD&T.
-
Experience with CMMs (operation and basic programme creation or modification).
-
Experience calibrating torque tools to ISO6789-2:2017.
-
Pressure calibration experience.
-
A background in manufacturing, defence, aerospace, or other highly regulated environments.
-
Experience providing technical support within a fast-paced production setting.
