Maelor Foods Ltd is an established, state of the art, modern chicken processing facility based just outside of Wrexham. As a privately owned, family-run business, we source our birds from reputable local farms who comply with British Red Tractor guidelines. This enables us to provide premium "A" grade quality whole chickens direct to retailers. Working closely with our sister company, Salisbury Poultry, we have the ability to offer the end user full farm-to-fork traceability, ensuring total customer satisfaction.
The Bird Drop and Despatch Supervisor will be responsible for leading and managing the Despatch and Bird Drop teams, ensuring operational effectiveness is maximised, company and site KPIs are achieved, and high standards of quality, food safety, customer service and bird welfare are maintained. You will play a key role in developing people, improving processes and delivering continuous improvement initiatives that support the long-term strategy of the business.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Despatch and Bird Drop teams, including Chargehands, Operatives and FLT/PPT Drivers.
- Ensure the timely and accurate intake, storage and despatch of finished products and raw materials.
- Monitor vehicle loading and unloading activities to ensure customer orders are fulfilled efficiently and accurately.
- Ensure all products are scanned correctly and supporting documentation is completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain full traceability of products and packaging throughout the despatch process.
- Monitor and maintain intake, despatch and chill temperatures to ensure legal compliance.
- Manage whole bird grading and segregation activities to maximise quality and yield.
- Monitor departmental KPIs and take corrective action where required to achieve performance targets.
- Ensure GMP, food safety, quality and hygiene standards are understood and adhered to by all team members.
- Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency and reduce waste.
- Manage employee attendance, return-to-work interviews, overtime and performance reviews.
- Support disciplinary, grievance and employee relations matters in line with company procedures.
- Drive Health & Safety standards within the department and actively promote a strong safety culture.
- Support production improvement projects and operational excellence initiatives.

To ensure maximum efficiencies within the operation, flexibility is essential. You may be required to assist in other areas or departments across the business when required.
Hours of Work
It is rotational working shift of:
- Week 1: Monday 07:00 – 19:00, Tuesday to Friday 16:00 – 01:30
- Week 2: Tuesday to Saturday 07:00 – 17:00
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Essential
- Previous experience supervising or managing a team within an FMCG environment.
- Experience working within warehousing, logistics or despatch operations.
- Knowledge and understanding of food safety legislation and hygiene standards.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Experience of data recording and using computer software and databases.
- Proven track record of delivering improvements within an area of responsibility.
- Strong leadership and influencing skills.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement while effectively leading others.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make decisions.
- Mechanically minded with good operational awareness.
Desirable
- Previous experience within the poultry or food manufacturing industry.
- Food Hygiene qualification.
- Health & Safety qualification.
- Experience managing KPI performance and labour utilisation.
- Previous experience leading continuous improvement projects.
