The Joshua Tree is seeking an experienced finance leader to join our senior leadership team at an exciting stage of growth. This is an opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the financial sustainability of a charity supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer across the UK.
The Role
Reporting to the CEO, this is a hands-on Head of Finance role combining strategic leadership with operational delivery. You will lead the charity’s financial management while overseeing day-to-day finance operations, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our charity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead financial reporting, forecasting, and performance analysis
- Develop and manage annual budgets and long-term financial plans
- Ensure accurate management of restricted and unrestricted income
- Produce reports for the CEO, Board, and Finance Committee
- Support fundraising activity through budget development and grant reporting
- Manage audit processes and statutory reporting
- Line manage and support the Finance and Operations Officer
- Liaise with external software support to improve reporting, functionality and development of our SAGE Intacct system

The Joshua Tree supports children and families affected by childhood cancer, providing vital emotional health and wellbeing support throughout diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and beyond.
This year marks our 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of impact, compassion, and support. Over the last five years alone, the charity has doubled its income (£1.25 million in 2025/26), significantly expanded its team and services, and increased its reach to support more than 750 families nationally.

- Part time role, 21 hours per week with flexibility to work across 3, 4, or 5 days – to be agreed at the outset.
- Hybrid working available, with some on-site presence in Sandiway (Northwich) at least 2 days per week initially

About You
You will be motivated by our mission and committed to making a difference to families affected by childhood cancer.
Essential:
- Strong financial management experience
- Sound working knowledge of restricted and unrestricted income, including deferred income analysis
- Solid experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Good understanding of financial systems and processes needed for a charitable organisation to succeed
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to lead others
- IT proficiency, with working knowledge of digital accounting software
Desirable:
- Charity sector experience
- Professional qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
- Working knowledge of Sage Intacct
