We're now looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team on a full-time permanent basis, supporting the site Financial Controller and wider finance function to ensure accurate financial reporting, robust controls and efficient day-to-day finance operations.
The role
As an Assistant Accountant, working Monday to Friday, you'll play a key role in maintaining the integrity of our accounting records, supporting cash flow management and contributing to month-end reporting activities. You'll work closely with colleagues across the business, helping to ensure financial processes are completed accurately and efficiently.
What you'll be doing:
- Maintain purchase ledger records and process accounting entries within Sage
- Manage monthly supplier payment runs
- Process sales invoices, credit notes and customer receipts
- Support month-end activities including accruals and prepayments
- Maintain the fixed asset register, including depreciation calculations and journals
- Assist with balance sheet reconciliations
- Complete bank reconciliations and support cash flow forecasting
- Support preparation of monthly reporting packs
- Assist with payroll checks and post payroll journals
- Prepare sales and debtor reports as required
- Process expenses, credit card transactions and mileage claims
- Respond to internal finance and controlling queries
- Support financial reporting improvements and process automation initiatives
- Provide cover and support across the wider finance team when required
What do we want from you?
- Previous experience in a similar Assistant Accountant or finance role
- Experience of purchase ledger, sales ledger and general accounting processes
- Experience supporting month-end activities, including reconciliations and accruals/prepayments
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience using Sage or a similar accounting system
- AAT qualified or studying towards an AAT qualification (desirable but not essential)
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Analytical and problem-solving ability
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment
