Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Care Home Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation and culinary excellence, with a strong background in kitchen operations within care or hospitality settings. This role involves preparing nutritious, appealing meals that meet residents’ dietary needs while maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.
Duties
- Prepare and cook balanced, appetizing meals tailored to the dietary requirements of residents, including special diets such as diabetic, gluten-free, or texture-modified foods.
- Plan weekly menus in collaboration with management and catering teams, ensuring variety and nutritional value.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area in strict accordance with food safety regulations and sanitation standards.
- Manage stock levels, monitor inventory, and order supplies to ensure consistent availability of ingredients without excess waste.
- Adhere to all food safety protocols, including proper storage, handling, and temperature controls to prevent contamination.
- Support the overall dining experience by serving meals with professionalism and courtesy, ensuring residents feel valued and comfortable.
- Work closely with care staff to accommodate individual resident preferences and dietary restrictions effectively.
Requirements
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking within a care home, restaurant, or hospitality environment.
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices relevant to residential care settings.
- Demonstrated ability to plan menus that meet nutritional guidelines while appealing to diverse tastes.
- Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage kitchen operations efficiently under time constraints.
- Good communication skills for liaising with care staff, residents, suppliers, and management.
- Previous experience in serving meals in a healthcare or residential setting is highly desirable.
- A relevant culinary qualification or equivalent experience in food service is preferred.
