Associate Molecular Biologist

Job Overview:
We are looking for an Associate Molecular Biologist to support our trait enablement projects.
Our team works at the interface between molecular biology and plant transformation using state-of-the-art genome-editing tools to develop tropical crops with novel traits.
The Associate Scientist will be responsible for running our high throughput quality assay pipeline for screening gene editing and RNAi designs for product development.
This role requires a strong understanding of molecular biology concepts and an ability and willingness to learn new wet-lab and in silico techniques and processes.
You will support the team to meet our internal specifications and standards whilst providing a high-quality service for our Crop Biotechnology clients, under close supervision and direction from our team of expert scientists.
Key Responsibilities:

Protoplast isolation and transformation from various plant species
- Perform reporter gene assays to measure gene expression or cellular activity
- Programming and supervision of liquid handlers for automated and semi-automated processes
- Design and generation of plant transformation vectors
- Troubleshoot relevant technical issues and continuously optimise our existing processes
- Collaborate across multiple projects and delivery of results within required deadlines
Requirements:
Essential:

BSc/MSc in Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, Biology, or any other related discipline
- Aseptic handling and subculturing of biological material
- Experience with standard molecular cloning techniques
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment
- Strong communication skills, able to discuss complex problems clearly
- Excellent organization and adherence to strict QC and assurance practices
Desirable:
- 3+ years working experience in a research environment (academic or commercial)
- Good understanding of gene expression and its regulation
- Knowledge of and experience with gene editing technologies
- Previous experience with working on plants
