The post holder will act as a multi-skilled specialist in both Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) across all sites in the region they work. The post holder will be responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic CT and MRI examinations, maintaining expert knowledge across both modalities, and delivering compassionate, patient-centred care.
Alongside maintaining high standards of clinical practice, the post holder will manage dual cross-sectional workflows, ensure strict adherence to both radiation safety (IR(ME)R/IRR) and static magnetic field safety protocols, oversee modality quality assurance, and contribute to continuous service improvement.
The post holder must adhere to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct and be actively involved in continued professional development.
Role Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence & Cross-Sectional Safety
- Clinical Practice: Act as an autonomous practitioner, performing a wide range of specialised CT and MRI procedures while delivering patient care of the highest standard.
- Radiation & Magnetic Safety: Ensure strict compliance with IR(ME)R and IRR regulations during CT imaging, maintaining dose optimisation (ALARP) and enforce strict pre-scan safety screening and static field safety protocols in the MRI environment.
- Vetting & Protocols: Justify and vet clinical referrals for CT and MRI against departmental protocols, selecting appropriate scanning parameters and protocols to optimise image quality while minimising radiation dose or scan duration.
- IV Administration: Perform IV cannulation and safely administer contrast media and medication across both modalities using automated injectors, strictly adhering to renal function protocols and PGDs.
