Barlows is looking for an experienced Commercial Gas Estimator / Technical Support person to join our mechanical/HVAC team.
This is an office-based role suited to someone with a strong background in commercial gas and heating who understands the practical side of the industry and can use that experience to price works accurately, support our engineers and help manage jobs through from initial enquiry to completion.
Our work is predominantly light commercial gas and heating, with some air conditioning/HVAC works. Air conditioning experience would be useful but is not essential.
Applicants must have previous on site gas experience.
Main responsibilities
- Preparing quotations and estimates for commercial gas and heating works
- Reviewing engineer reports, site information, photographs and recommendations
- Producing quotations for repairs, replacements and remedial works
- Sourcing and pricing boilers, heaters, pumps, controls and associated materials
- Raising and reviewing invoices for completed works
- Checking engineer job sheets and completed paperwork
- Providing technical advice and support to engineers in the field
- Helping diagnose faults and determine suitable repair/replacement solutions
- Liaising with suppliers and manufacturers regarding equipment and technical information
- Liaising with customers regarding quotations and ongoing works
- Helping plan materials and labour requirements
- Ensuring quotations include appropriate labour, materials and associated costs
- Supporting the mechanical team with larger quotations and project works
- Assisting with AC/HVAC quotations where experience allows
What we're looking for:
The successful candidate should have strong practical commercial gas/heating knowledge.
Ideally you'll have previously worked as a commercial gas engineer, supervisor, estimator, contracts engineer or similar and understand the realities of carrying out the work on site.
You'll need:
- Good commercial gas/heating knowledge
- Experience estimating or pricing mechanical/gas works
- Ability to interpret engineer reports and identify required remedial works
- Good understanding of boilers, heating systems, controls and associated plant
- Confidence providing technical support to engineers
- Good computer and administrative skills
- Ability to communicate confidently with engineers, suppliers and customers
- Good attention to detail when producing quotations and reviewing invoices
- Ability to manage several quotations/jobs at the same time
- Ideally commercial Gas qualifications or at a minimum domestic
- Previous air conditioning/HVAC knowledge would also be advantageous, but we would rather have someone with excellent commercial gas knowledge and limited AC experience than the other way around.
The role:
This would suit an experienced commercial gas engineer who wants to move away from being permanently on the tools while still using their technical knowledge every day.
You'll work closely with our engineers and office team, helping us turn engineer recommendations and customer enquiries into properly specified and accurately priced works.
