SML Geoscience provides specialist ground investigation and subsidence services to the UK insurance sector. Due to continued growth, we are expanding our subsidence team in Chichester.
The Role
This is an office-based administration role within a small but busy team delivering specialist subsidence investigations nationwide. In this position, you will play a key part in ensuring investigations are delivered efficiently, on time, and to a high standard across a workstream of multiple live projects.
Working as part of a specialist team, under the guidance of the Operations Manager and supported by a team of engineers, you will support the full investigation process — from receiving client instructions and arranging bookings through to invoicing and reporting. The work involves liaising closely with policyholders, insurers, and contractors to ensure each project progresses smoothly from instruction to completion. You will also support the team in maintaining project databases and producing regular management information.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys structured problem solving, coordination, working with data, maintaining organised systems, and achieving targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate subsidence investigations from instruction to completion
- Arrange site access, appointments, and logistics
- Schedule drilling crews, surveyors, and laboratory testing
- Track progress and prioritise tasks across multiple live projects
- Maintain accurate records using internal systems (WorkflowMax)
- Communicate with clients, contractors, and internal teams
- Respond to internal and external enquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Support invoicing and general project administration
About You
This role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills looking to build a career in technical project coordination. It would suit applicants with administrative or coordination experience, as well as those with an interest or background in geoscience, engineering, or environmental disciplines.
Essential Skills & Attributes
- Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
- Strong organisational and coordination skills

- Excellent written communication
- Comfortable handling technical information (training provided)
- Confident, professional communicator
- Ability to work accurately and meet deadlines
