Axcis Education is recruiting on behalf of a friendly mainstream primary school in Christchurch that is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This full-time position will involve providing 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), while also supporting the wider class throughout the school day.
The school has a strong reputation for inclusive practice and is led by an experienced and approachable Senior Leadership Team that is committed to supporting both pupils and staff. The Role:
Working closely with the Year 3 class teacher and SENDCo, you will play an important role in helping a pupil with additional needs access learning, build confidence and develop independence while also providing wider classroom support when required.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with ASC
- Supporting the pupil to access the curriculum and achieve their individual EHCP outcomes
- Assisting the class teacher with whole-class learning and small group activities
- Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social interaction
- Adapting learning resources and activities to meet individual needs
- Monitoring progress and providing feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo
- Supporting pupils during playtimes, educational visits and other school activities
- Contributing to a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
About You:
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly ASC, within a primary school
- Can build positive relationships through patience, empathy and consistency
- Has a good understanding of inclusive classroom practice and behaviour support
- Works well as part of a collaborative team
- Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or has equivalent school-based experience
- Has an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one
