DAS / Neutral-Host Installation Engineer
Surrey (base) · UK-wide travel · Driving licence required
ChannelTeq is a leading provider of wireless solutions to some of the world's most exciting and architecturally challenging buildings and venues across the UK.
We have an experienced and multi-skilled in-house installation team, many of whom have worked on high profile and network critical rigging projects. We understand the importance of right-first-time installation and take pride in the quality of our installations.
Role Purpose: An Installation Engineer proficient in the installation and commissioning of radio equipment and associated cabling — across DAS, neutral-host and small-cell systems from cabinet to antenna. We're looking for someone who can work independently and think on their feet — solving operational challenges on site where there may not be an SOP, drawing or plan to follow — while also working effectively with other team members.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Installation of radio equipment and associated cabling — coax feeder and termination, antennas, passive RF components, head-end and point-of-interface
- Installation and commissioning of neutral-host and small-cell equipment — CommScope OneCell BBU and radio points, Ericsson Radio DOT, and operator commissioning
- Cabinet network build — aggregation/access switch configuration and stacking, routers, SFPs, structured data cabling, termination and patching
- Fibre installation, splicing/termination
- Enabling works — containment, core drilling, and DC power and earthing
- Coax sweep testing (Anritsu SiteMaster) and copper / Ethernet cable testing (Fluke certification and verification)
- Cable testing, red line drawings / up-date as-built records, and post-build report writing
- Snagging of works where required
- Reactive maintenance, fault-finding and decommissioning
- Responsible for the integrity of all equipment, tools and installation materials
- Equipment logging and classification, calibration preparation, equipment collation and ordering, storing and organisation
Systems & equipment you will work with:
- Coax: 4.3-10, N-type and 7/16 DIN connectors; Heliax feeder (LDF/AVA/FSJ); jumpers
- RF/DAS: antennas (omni, panel, donor), splitters, couplers, diplexers; head-end, POI, HCU; repeaters and cell enhancers
- Small cell / neutral host: CommScope OneCell BBU with RP2K and RP5K radio points, Ericsson Radio DOT; operators O2, EE, Three, Vodafone
- Cabinet IP: Ruckus ICX8200 switches (config/stacking), Juniper SRX routers, 10G/25G SFPs, Cat5e/6
- Fibre: OS1/OM1-3, fusion splicing, connector types (SC/LC/E2000/ST/FC)
- Coax test: Anritsu SiteMaster (sweep / DTF / return loss)
- Copper / Ethernet test: Fluke DSX (certification) and Fluke IntelliTone (verification and tracing)
- Enabling: containment, drilling, power and earthing
Critical Knowledge & Experience:
Must have:
- CSCS or ECS card
- Right to work in the UK
- Full UK driving licence
- Extensive knowledge of installation practices, to include co-ax cable installation, termination and testing; confident, correct and safe use of power tools — cordless drills/drivers — for fixing containment, brackets and penetrations, including correct bit/blade selection, dust control and PPE
- Ability to work independently and resolve operational problems on site without a set SOP, drawing or plan — sound judgement, initiative and a right-first-time mindset
- Good working knowledge of MS Office
Nice to have:
- Network Engineer knowledge — switch/router configuration, SFPs and IP cabling e.g. working knowledge CCNA / CompTIA Network+ / JNCIA
- Fire-stopping
- EMF Worker (RF Awareness)
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- Knowledge of fibre installation, termination and testing
- Small-cell / neutral-host commissioning (OneCell / Ericsson DOT)
- Site Supervisor / CDM qualification (e.g. SSSTS / SMSTS)
- IPAF / MEWP
- DBS
