We are recruiting for an experienced Yard Operations Manager to join an established recycling operation.
This is a key position supporting the General Manager with responsibility for site operations, yard management, health & safety, training, people management, plant and operational performance.
The successful candidate will have a proven background within the recycling industry and experience supervising or managing teams within a busy operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Operations Manager with the effective day-to-day management of the site.
- Oversee yard operations, ensuring materials are processed, stored and moved efficiently.
- Manage and supervise operational staff, ensuring performance and productivity standards are maintained.
- Monitor daily production and operational targets.
- Take responsibility for maintaining high standards of Health & Safety across the site.
- Conduct regular site inspections and ensure safe systems of work are followed.
- Manage employee training, inductions, toolbox talks and competency records.
- Ensure operators are appropriately trained and competent to use plant and machinery.
- Monitor the safe and efficient operation of site plant and equipment.
- Identify maintenance requirements and work with the relevant teams to minimise downtime.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and site organisation.
- Monitor material quality and operational standards.
- Support stock control and the movement of materials around the site.
- Investigate operational issues and implement appropriate corrective action.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding and employee development.
- Manage day-to-day employee issues and performance concerns.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, transport providers and other external parties where required.
- Support environmental and regulatory compliance.
- Provide operational leadership in the absence of the Operations Manager.
Candidate Requirements
Previous experience within the recycling industry is essential.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience within a metal, cable, plastics, waste or materials recycling operation, with a strong understanding of industrial yard and processing environments.
You will have:
- Proven experience in a supervisory or management position within recycling.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety within a recycling or industrial environment.
- Experience managing and developing operational teams.
- Experience working with processing machinery, mobile plant or other recycling equipment.
- A good understanding of production, productivity and operational targets.
- Experience managing training and competency requirements.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- A practical and hands-on management approach.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and make effective operational decisions.
Desirable Experience
Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
- Metal recycling
- Waste processing
- Scrap metal operations
- Environmental compliance
- Mobile plant and machinery
- IOSH / NEBOSH or other relevant H&S qualifications
The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Recycling Supervisor, Recycling Manager, Yard Manager, Operations Supervisor or Assistant Operations Manager looking to take the next step within a growing recycling business.
The successful candidate will have a significant role in maintaining safe, efficient and productive site operations, working closely with the General Manager and wider management team.
Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
