Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Support Pharmacist / Independent Prescribing Pharmacist to join our dynamic healthcare team at Edinburgh City Centre. Our pharmacy is a vibrant place to work. Our clientele includes tourists and university students. In this role, you will play a vital part in delivering exceptional patient care by providing expert medication advice, supporting clinical services, and ensuring safe medication management. Your expertise will help optimize patient outcomes and enhance the overall quality of care within our pharmacy setting. We are looking for a motivated, empathetic, and patient-focused Support Pharmacist or Independent Prescribing Pharmacist to join our team — someone with a genuine interest in our private services, including travel clinic consultations, and a keen desire to keep developing their clinical role. You will work closely with our Superintendent Pharmacist to ensure the safe and efficient running of the dispensary, provide excellent patient care, and support the delivery of NHS and private pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately dispense prescription and over-the-counter medicines in line with legal and professional standards
- Provide clinical checks, medicines advice, and patient consultations
- Deliver NHS services such as the Pharmacy First and Pharmacy first Plus
- Support the growth and delivery of our private services, including private consultations, prescribing, and travel clinic consultations
- Deliver travel health advice and vaccinations as part of our travel clinic offering
- Support and supervise pharmacy support staff and dispensers
- Ensure compliance with GPhC standards, SOPs, and clinical governance requirements
- Manage stock control, ordering, and controlled drugs procedures
- Handle patient queries with professionalism, empathy, and discretion
- Contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the pharmacy
About You
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacist or an Independent Prescribing Pharmacist (or actively working towards this qualification)
- MPharm degree or equivalent, with UK pharmacist registration
- Strong clinical knowledge and up-to-date awareness of NHS Scotland pharmacy services
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuinely empathetic approach to patient care
- A team player who is also confident working independently
- Previous community pharmacy experience is desirable
- Genuine interest in growing our private services, including travel clinic consultations, private consultations, and private prescribing
- A proactive approach to developing your clinical knowledge, with willingness to undertake further training

Duties
- Provide expert guidance on medication administration, ensuring safe and effective use of pharmaceuticals for diverse patient populations
- Support clinical teams by offering specialized advice on complex medication regimens, including those related to ICU care when applicable
- Conduct patient consultations to assess medication needs, review treatment plans, and promote adherence to prescribed therapies
- Assist in developing and implementing pharmacy services that improve patient care pathways and optimize medication management processes
- Maintain accurate documentation of all clinical interventions, medication records, and patient interactions in compliance with regulatory standards
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress, medication adjustments, and care strategies
- Support the training and supervision of pharmacy technicians and junior staff to uphold high standards of practice
Experience
- Proven experience as a pharmacist with a strong background in patient care and medication management
- ICU experience is highly desirable, demonstrating familiarity with critical care medications and protocols
- In-depth knowledge of human anatomy to better understand drug effects and interactions within the body
- Hands-on experience with medication administration procedures across various healthcare settings
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare professionals and educate patients
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with pharmaceutical advancements

Pay: £52,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
