Role Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic English Teacher to join our small, dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, engaging lessons in both subjects to students aged 13–18, many of whom may have special educational needs, social, emotional, or mental health (SEMH) challenges, or be working below age-related expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver differentiated lessons in across KS3 and KS4, tailored to meet the individual needs of learners.
- Use creative and flexible teaching methods to engage students and help them overcome barriers to learning.
- Assess, record, and report on student progress, using formative and summative approaches.
- Prepare students for functional skills or alternative qualifications, where appropriate.
- Set clear, achievable learning objectives and support students in working towards personal and academic goals.
Pastoral and Behaviour Support
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students, promoting a safe and respectful classroom environment.
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy and therapeutic approach.
- Support students with SEMH needs through consistent routines, structure, and emotional support.
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Work closely with the SENCO, Teaching Assistants, and wider staff team to provide holistic support.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and parent/carer meetings as required.
- Maintain accurate records, contribute to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and support with EHCP reviews where relevant.
Essential Criteria
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or relevant teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching English to KS3 and KS4 learners.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching for students with SEN and/or SEMH.
- A nurturing, resilient, and flexible approach.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working in an alternative provision or specialist setting.
- Knowledge of Functional Skills, Entry Level, or other alternative qualifications.
- Training in trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches (e.g., Team Teach, Thrive, or similar).
- A passion for engaging hard-to-reach learners and making a lasting impact.

Pay: £30,000.00-£36,000.00 per year
