Head Chef
We're looking for an organised, reliable and passionate Head Chef to lead the kitchen in one of our friendly, community-focused pubs.
This isn't a huge, high-pressure operation. We're a well-established local pub with a loyal customer base, serving quality food in a relaxed environment. You'll have the freedom to run your own kitchen while knowing there's plenty of support around you whenever you need it.
About the role
As Head Chef, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day running of the kitchen, including food preparation, service, ordering, stock control, food safety and maintaining high standards throughout.
You'll be supported by our Commis Chef and Kitchen Porters, with the backing of our Executive Chef and the wider management team across our group of three pubs. We're looking for someone who enjoys taking responsibility, can work independently, and takes pride in running an organised, efficient kitchen.
What service looks like
We have a steady trade throughout the week with a loyal customer base, meaning you'll know what to expect rather than facing unpredictable volumes.
Typical weekly cover numbers are:
Wednesday: approximately 20 covers
Thursday: approximately 30 covers
Friday: approximately 50 covers
Saturday: approximately 80 covers
Sunday: approximately 100 covers
It's a busy kitchen at the weekends, but it's a manageable operation with a supportive team around you.
Hours
The core working pattern is:
- Wednesday: 10:00am – 8:00pm
- Thursday: 10:00am – 8:00pm
- Friday: 9:00am – 8:00pm
- Saturday: 9:00am – 8:00pm
- Sunday: 9:00am – 7:30pm
One of the great things about this role is that it's very much what you make it.
For chefs who are looking to maximise their earnings, there are opportunities to work 50+ hours per week as our business is in its next phase of growth. Equally, if you're an organised and efficient chef who plans well and runs a tight kitchen, the role can comfortably be managed in fewer hours than advertised while maintaining the high standards we expect.
What we're looking for
This role is perfect for a Sous Chef ready to take on the challenge of running their own kitchen or an established Head Chef who is ready to take a step back from very high-pressure kitchens.
- Has previous experience leading a kitchen or is ready to step into their first Head Chef role.
- Is organised and can confidently manage the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
- Maintains high standards of food quality, cleanliness and food safety.
- Works well with others and creates a positive atmosphere in the kitchen.
- Enjoys being part of a small, close-knit team.
What we offer
- Competitive pay, negotiable depending on experience (£18.50 - £20.00ph)
- A supportive Executive Chef and management team.
- The opportunity to be part of a growing group of three successful pubs.
- A friendly working environment with a loyal customer base.
- Real autonomy to run your kitchen without being left on your own.
