About the Business
We are a well-established greeting card distribution business that has successfully operated across Norfolk for more than 28 years.
The business supplies greeting cards and party products to more than 200 retail outlets, including convenience stores, petrol stations, holiday resorts and independent shops.
Following a recent change of ownership, we are looking for a reliable, motivated and customer-focused individual to take responsibility for the day-to-day merchandising and servicing of our existing customer accounts.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys driving, working independently, building relationships with customers and managing their own daily workload.
The Role
As a Greeting Card Merchandiser and Route Sales Representative, you will be responsible for loading the company van, following established daily route plans and visiting retail customers throughout Norfolk.
At each customer location, you will check and replenish greeting card and party product displays, record sold stock and prepare invoices.
You will receive full training for approximately one to two weeks. After completing your training, you will be expected to manage the daily route independently, with ongoing support from the business owner.
Main Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Checking stock levels at the Norwich business unit and identifying potential shortages.
- Informing the owner promptly when greeting cards, party products or other stock need to be ordered.
- Loading the company van with the correct stock for each day’s planned route.
- Driving to customer locations across Norfolk using established route plans.
- Checking, replenishing and maintaining greeting card and party product displays.
- Ensuring displays are fully stocked, tidy and professionally presented.
- Recording sold stock accurately and producing customer invoices.
- Handling cash and bank-payment transactions in accordance with company procedures.
- Returning invoices and cash payments to the designated secure storage area at the business unit.
- Reporting customer queries, account issues or stock concerns promptly to the owner.
- Building positive and professional relationships with existing customers.
- Identifying opportunities to increase sales by introducing suitable products to existing accounts.
- Looking for potential new customers while travelling through assigned areas.
- Supporting the growth of the business by helping to open valuable new retail accounts.
- Representing the business professionally when dealing with convenience stores, petrol stations, holiday resorts and other independent retailers.
Working Hours
This is a full-time position working five days per week, excluding Sundays.
Start times are flexible and may normally be arranged between 7:00 am and 9:30 am. Daily routes should generally be completed before 8:00 pm, as many village shops close around that time.
The business is seasonal. During the busier period, normally from October to April, longer working days may be required. Working hours may be shorter during quieter periods of the rest of the year.
About You
The successful candidate should be:
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Based in Norwich or within a reasonable travelling distance of the NR6 area.
- A confident and responsible driver.
- The holder of a full UK driving licence, ideally with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable driving a company van throughout Norfolk.
- Friendly, professional and customer-focused.
- Confident speaking with a wide range of retail customers.
- Organised and able to follow route plans efficiently.
- Able to manage stock, invoices and cash accurately.
- Proactive in identifying stock shortages and customer issues.
- Commercially aware and able to recognise opportunities to increase sales.
- Willing to approach potential new customers professionally.
- Physically able to load, unload and merchandise greeting card stock and display products.
- Comfortable working without close supervision after completing the initial training period.
