Overview
We are seeking a Trainee Gardener to join our unique private estate on the Windsor/Buckinghamshire border. This full-time role offers the opportunity to develop as part of a small, dedicated team. Whilst helping maintain our beautiful gardens, learning about the specialist bonsai collection and assisting in the upkeep of the wider estate green spaces. Using this rare opportunity to develop an understanding of the balance between gardening and practical estate upkeep.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable in this hands-on, all-weather role where no two days are the same. Under the guidance of the team, you will complete a variety of tasks from completing seasonal maintenance, helping to maintaining sculpted formal gardens, and assisting in project building works to enable you to develop a variety of gardening and maintenance skills.
The Role
You will play a key role in maintaining and developing a diverse range of outdoor environments to an exceptional standard. With a willingness to learn and a proactive, hands-on approach, you will help ensure the estate remains immaculate, functional, and visually inspiring year-round.
You will:
- Learn to maintain gardens, flowerbeds, shrubs, and landscaped areas through pruning, trimming, watering, planting, and seasonal care.
- Complete general estate maintenance tasks including painting fences and aiding in building outdoor structures.
- Develop the skills to carry out routine ground’s maintenance including leaf blowing, pathway clearance, litter picking, and debris removal.
- Support the upkeep of lakes and surrounding outdoor spaces.
- Learn to operate and maintain garden machinery and tools including mowers, strimmer’s, hedge cutters, and other handheld equipment.
- Work closely with the wider team to ensure all outdoor spaces are maintained safely and efficiently
- Report hazards, damages, or maintenance concerns promptly
- Occasionally support team leadership and help uphold high working standards across the estate
About You
You are practical, reliable, time efficient and want to take pride in your work. You understand that good standards of work are built through consistency and attention to detail.
You will bring:
- A passion for landscaping and gardening work.
- A strong work ethic and willingness to undertake hands-on physical tasks in all weather conditions
- A willingness to learn to use hand tools, power tools, and garden machinery
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
- The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
- A proactive and flexible approach to daily tasks
Desirable
- A strong interest in gardening and landscaping
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
Working Hours
- 10-hour shifts (including 1-hour paid lunch break)
- 5 days per week
- 1 weekend off in 4
