Purpose of the Role
To inspire and educate pupils through the delivery of outstanding Mathematics teaching. The successful candidate will foster confidence, curiosity and a love of learning in mathematics, enabling pupils to achieve excellent academic outcomes while contributing fully to the wider life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, challenging and well-structured Mathematics lessons to pupils across the relevant age range.
- Teach Mathematics in accordance with the school's curriculum and examination specifications.
- Differentiate teaching to meet the needs, abilities and learning styles of all pupils.
- Monitor, assess and record pupil progress accurately and regularly.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to support pupil development and achievement.
- Prepare pupils for internal and external examinations, including GCSE and A-Level where applicable.
- Maintain high standards of classroom management, behaviour and pupil engagement.
- Promote confidence and resilience in mathematical problem-solving.
Curriculum Development
- Contribute to the development and review of schemes of work and departmental resources.
- Stay informed of developments in Mathematics education and teaching methodologies.
- Support the integration of technology and innovative approaches to enhance learning.
- Promote enrichment opportunities that encourage mathematical thinking and challenge.
Pastoral Responsibilities
- Act as a form tutor or pastoral mentor where required.
- Support the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of pupils.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout all aspects of school life.
- Develop positive and productive relationships with pupils and their families.
Co-Curricular Involvement
- Contribute to the school's co-curricular programme.
- Support and lead activities such as Mathematics Clubs, UKMT challenges, STEM initiatives, enrichment programmes and educational visits.
- Encourage participation in mathematical competitions and extension activities.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend departmental meetings, staff meetings, parents' evenings and school events.
- Maintain positive relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Participate actively in professional development and performance review processes.
- Uphold and promote the values, policies and ethos of the school.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised teaching qualification.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Essential Experience
- Experience of teaching Mathematics successfully in a secondary school environment.
- Experience preparing pupils for public examinations.
- Proven ability to motivate and inspire pupils of differing abilities and backgrounds.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent subject knowledge across the Mathematics curriculum.
- Ability to teach Mathematics effectively at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the ability to teach A-Level being advantageous.
- Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use assessment data to improve pupil outcomes.
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience teaching A-Level Mathematics and/or Further Mathematics.
- Experience working within the independent school sector, supporting learners with SEMH needs.
- Experience leading enrichment activities or mathematical competitions.
- Familiarity with educational technology and digital learning platforms.
- Ability to contribute to wider STEM initiatives.
