The Picton Castle Charitable Trust was set up in 1987 to ensure the preservation of our historically important castle and gardens.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and conscientious individual who wants to build a career in historic building maintenance. You will be involved in all areas of maintenance of the Castle and associated buildings; including roofing repairs, carpentry, plumbing, general building maintenance, basic electrics, painting and decorating. You will be provided with extensive on-the-job training and will work under supervision of our Maintenance Manager.
This is an exciting time to join our team. Picton Castle is a Grade I historic building, and possibly the finest stately home in Pembrokeshire. The Castle was built in 1315, is medieval in origin and has magnificent early Georgian interiors. You will be at the heart of caring for one of Wales’s most unique heritage sites.
We are looking for someone with an interest in old buildings and a desire to develop a career in heritage building conservation.
Essential Criteria
· Minimum 2 years experience in building maintenance or good DIY skills which must include experience in plumbing, basic electrics, carpentry, painting & decorating.
· Computer literacy in MS Office (Word & Excel).
· Willingness to undertake on-the-job training to acquire new skills.
· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team and have good communication skills.
· Attention to detail is essential.
· A passion for historic buildings.
· Due to location the of Picton Castle applicants must have access to their own transport.
· The role requires occasional weekend and bank holiday working on a rota basis.
· Applicants must be over 18.
· Applicants must be entitled to work in the UK and agree to a DBS check.
Desirable Criteria
· A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A* - D, including Mathematics and English.
· Awareness of Health and Safety in a day-to-day context.
· Written and spoken Welsh.

Salary: £25,600 (Negotiable for the right candidate).
Contract: Permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
Hours: 8am-4pm usually Monday to Friday (inclusion on the bank holiday and weekend rota)
Annual leave: 33 days (including bank holidays)
Pension: Nest workplace pension
