About the Role
We are looking for a Plumber and Maintenance Worker to join our team.
As part of the Plumber and Maintenance Worker role, you will work within the Building Services department to ensure the YMCA Bournemouth estate is maintained to a high standard, working within management guidelines and ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed.
You will carry out commercial and domestic plumbing works across the Association, including basic maintenance and other trade duties as directed, such as basic carpentry, painting and decorating, and tiling.
This Role Will Involve
- Repairing and installing new plumbing and sanitaryware across the YMCA Bournemouth estate.
- Installing replacement sanitaryware, baths, shower trays, level decks, and associated equipment.
- Installing new pipework (copper, Speedfit, waste, and rainwater systems).
- Installing sundry items such as taps and ball valves.
- Carrying out general building maintenance, including decorating, tiling, and other basic maintenance tasks.
- Completing compliance checks, including fire doors, water management, and emergency lighting.
Skills and Competencies
You will be able to demonstrate:
- A recognised trade qualification at a basic level.
- Experience in domestic and commercial plumbing.
- Good basic numeracy and written English skills.
- Experience in building maintenance.
- Experience of building compliance works.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- A recognised trade qualification at a basic level.
- Experience in domestic and commercial plumbing.
- Experience in building maintenance.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures, or a willingness to undertake safeguarding training.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience of basic plastering, building walls, plumbing, and joinery.

- The role has a statutory, occupational requirement to ensure the safety and welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk that they may come across using our services. The post holder will take responsibility for ensuring safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk as a priority and follow both YMCA Bournemouth safeguarding policy and BCP Safeguarding Children Partnership and Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership statutory guidance.
