We are passionate about finding solutions to the major problems faced by society and the planet, and we create opportunities for those with the drive, the ambition, and the determination to apply themselves in the pursuit of better.
About the Department
The Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering at Loughborough University is one of the largest and most successful engineering schools in the UK, consistently ranked among the top ten for our disciplines. We combine world-leading research with an outstanding student experience, underpinned by long-standing partnerships with industry, and by state-of-the-art facilities. Our collaborative and ambitious culture supports colleagues to excel across research, teaching and enterprise in support of the University Strategy, Creating Better Futures. Together.
The School wishes to appoint an academic in thermohydraulics to enhance our undergraduate programme with new teaching in this area, with a particular focus on applications in the nuclear and defence sectors. The intellectual core of the post is the thermal-hydraulic behaviour of energy systems under demanding conditions together with the modelling that underpins them.
We welcome applications from candidates across thermal-hydraulics, heat transfer, thermofluids, fluid systems, multiphase flow and computational fluid dynamics, whether or not their work is currently badged as nuclear, including those whose expertise has been built in adjacent settings such as process engineering, aerospace and propulsion, conventional power, or thermal management. A track record in nuclear engineering is welcome but not essential.
The successful candidate will have access to the School's new Wolfson X-Lab Extreme facility, offering a natural route into coupled thermal–structural research.
