Join us, and be part of a team that values courage, compassion, and dedication to public service. Help us to keep Wiltshire safe.
About our DDaT Services team
At Wiltshire Police, we're transforming policing through Digital, Data and Technology. We recognise that DDaT is no longer simply an enabler of policing; it is a strategic capability at the heart of how we protect communities, empower our workforce and deliver better public services. As we evolve from a traditional ICT function into a modern, user-centred DDaT organisation, we're embracing cloud technologies, automation, AI, data and digital innovation to create smarter, more connected and resilient services. Join us at the start of an ambitious transformation, where you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of digital policing, work with emerging technologies, influence meaningful change and build a rewarding career that makes a real difference to our organisation and the communities we serve.
About the role
As Senior Solution Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital policing by designing innovative, secure and user-centred technology solutions that deliver real operational impact. Working across complex digital, data and technology initiatives, you will translate business needs into practical, scalable architectures and technical solutions that enable better outcomes for officers, staff and the public. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders, you will combine strategic thinking, technical expertise and emerging technologies to design solutions that are resilient, sustainable and future-ready. This is an exciting opportunity to influence how modern policing services are designed, built and delivered.
What you will be doing
Lead the end-to-end architecture and design of complex digital, data and technology solutions, ensuring they meet user needs, business outcomes and organisational objectives.
Shape solution designs that intelligently combine commercial platforms, SaaS services, integrations and emerging technologies, maximising value while minimising unnecessary complexity.
Translate strategic and operational requirements into clear, implementable solution designs that delivery teams can execute with confidence.
Lead architectural decision-making for complex multi-system solutions, managing risk, dependencies and technical trade-offs throughout the lifecycle.
Ensure solutions are secure-by-design, resilient and fully aligned to governance, compliance and policing requirements.
Work closely with Service, Security, Delivery and Architecture teams to ensure solutions are coherent, viable and sustainable.
Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, platforms and integration approaches that improve services and deliver measurable value.
Coach and support architects, engineers and delivery teams, helping to raise architectural maturity, consistency and technical capability across DDaT.
About you and your experience
You are a user-centred technology professional who enjoys solving complex problems and designing innovative solutions that deliver meaningful outcomes for users, the organisation and the communities we serve.
You have significant experience in solution architecture, designing and assuring complex digital, data and technology solutions across multiple platforms, services and business domains.
You are skilled at balancing user needs, business priorities, security, risk, cost and technical constraints to create practical, scalable and sustainable solutions.
You are confident engaging senior stakeholders, communicating architectural options and trade-offs, and translating complex technical concepts into informed business decisions.
You are passionate about innovation and emerging technologies, with the ability to identify opportunities to leverage cloud platforms, integration technologies, automation, data and AI-enabled capabilities to deliver measurable value.
You have completed secure-by-design and data protection architecture training and apply these principles to create secure, resilient and trusted solutions by default.
You can demonstrate sustained professional development in architecture and related technology disciplines and ideally hold, or be working towards, recognised architecture certifications such as TOGAF, BCS Solution or Enterprise Architecture, or a cloud architecture certification.
You bring demonstrable senior experience in solution architecture and a proven ability to shape solution designs that align technology investment with strategic outcomes, user needs and organisational priorities.
