Finsbury Dog Walker is a small, established dog walking business in Finsbury Park area. We're expanding into Haringey/North of Finsbury Park (mostly around the Haringey ladder) and looking to work with an experienced dog walker on a self-employed basis.
About this arrangement
This is self-employed contract work rather than employment. You decide which walks you take on and how many dogs you walk. You're free to work for other companies and to keep your own private clients, and there's no obligation on either side — we offer work, you accept or decline it as suits you.
Pay is £10.50-£11.50 (based on experience) per dog per 60-minute group walk, invoiced monthly. Meaning a group of 6 dogs means you are able to earn up to £63-£69 per walk (a 6 dog walk takes roughly 2 hours including pick up and drop off)
Rates are negotiable based on client base and experience. As you'll be self-employed, you're responsible for your own tax and National Insurance, and you won't receive holiday pay, sick pay or a pension through us, however you're able to write off any applicable expenses etc. before paying tax.
If you're looking for employed work with guaranteed hours and holiday pay, do say — we'd rather have that conversation upfront than get the arrangement wrong.
Volume of work
We're building this area from scratch. The round starts at around 4–5 dogs a week from mid/late September, with scope to build towards a fuller round as the area develops, though we can't guarantee volume right away. This suits someone who already has their own walking round or weekend worker that wants to start some work during the week.
As the area develops there's scope for this to grow into a substantial round, though we can't guarantee volume to begin with.
The work
- Collecting dogs from client homes in your coverage area and walking them for 60 minutes
- Group walks of up to 4-6 dogs (depending on experience), in line with Haringey's Public Spaces Protection Order
- A short update and photo to each owner after every walk
- Handling keys securely to an agreed protocol
- Reporting any injury, illness, behavioural change or incident to the owner and to us immediately
What you'll need
- Demonstrable experience handling several dogs at once, including recall and lead reactivity
- Your own public liability insurance — minimum £1m, including care, custody and control
- Registered self-employed with HMRC (UTR required)
- Living in Haringey area or close by to commute
Desirable
- Canine first aid certificate
- Basic DBS certificate, or willingness to obtain one
- Existing knowledge of Finsbury Park/Haringey Ladder area and its parks
