The role:

An existing opportunity has became available within the unit for x1 full time Band 6 permanent position and x1 full time band 6 fixed term/secondment position for 6 months.
Ward 3c Renal is a 10 bedded inpatient ward caring for children and young people with renal, urology and rheumatology conditions from birth to 18 years. We provide all modalities of renal replacement therapy to children within Scotland. We have education programmes to support our staff in nursing children with Acute Renal Disease, Chronic Renal Disease, Pre and Post-operative care of patient undergoing renal biopsy, pre and post renal transplantation and care of complex renal/urology conditions and surgeries. We care for children and young people undergoing care of rheumatology conditions.
We have a 4 bedded bay for out-patient haemodialysis. The unit covers 7 days a week acute and chronic haemodialysis.
In April 2002 The Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow gained status as The National Unit for Renal Transplantation in Scotland. The object of the service is to provide a comprehensive Paediatric renal transplantation service, including associated assessment and follow up care, to residents of Scotland.
The ward shifts will cover days and night shift rotation, including weekends and public holidays.

One full-time post (1wte) band 6 senior staff nurse permanent

One part-time post (0.5wte) band 6 senior staff nurse fixed-term secondment for 6 months

Shift pattern for this post are rotational, days/nights, 7-day cover
Key responsibilities:
- Support and manage nursing staff within the clinical area to ensure that patient needs are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated, and that there is consultation and involvement of patient/carers.
- To provide a high standard of nursing care within the clinical area to ensure patient needs are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated and that there is consultation and involvement of carers.
- Responsible for maintaining patient records within agreed standards and ensuring the quality of record keeping within area of responsibility.
- Develop specialised programmes of care/care packages and provides highly specialized advice concerning the treatment of complex patient groups.
- Provide an expert knowledge base, understanding and clinical competence, ensuring others maintain a high standard of patient care.
- To delegate staff with due regard to individuals capabilities, utilising available skill mix appropriately

Ensure that patient care is individualised to encompass spiritual and cultural needs of the child and family.
- Provide the shared objectives of the multidisciplinary team by working closely to ensure that best practice is achieved.
- Promote the interface between hospital and community to promote a seamless service for the child and family.
