Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home

Hours:
40 hours per week, with on-call and evening/weekend cover as required
Purpose of the Role:
To support the Registered Manager in the overall management and development of the children’s home, ensuring high standards of care for children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). The Deputy Manager will play a key role in leading and supervising staff, promoting safeguarding, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
Key Responsibilities:Leadership and Management
- Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home and assume management responsibility in their absence.
- Assist in developing and implementing care plans and ensuring these meet the individual needs of children and young people.
- Supervise, mentor, and motivate staff to deliver high-quality care in line with company policies and procedures.
- Support in the recruitment, induction, and training of staff.
- Contribute to staff rotas and ensure adequate staffing levels at all times.
Safeguarding and Compliance
- Promote a safeguarding culture, ensuring all staff are vigilant and follow safeguarding procedures.
- Ensure the home complies with Ofsted requirements, Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, and the Quality Standards.
- Contribute to regular audits and action plans to maintain high standards of care and compliance.
Care and Support
- Build positive, nurturing relationships with children and young people, providing a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Support children in line with their care plans, promoting their emotional resilience, independence, and personal development.
- Manage incidents effectively and promote positive behaviour support strategies.
Administration and Reporting
- Complete accurate records, reports, and updates as required (e.g., care plans, risk assessments, daily logs).
- Support with budget management and resource allocation.
- Liaise with external agencies, parents, and professionals effectively.
Person Specification:Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) and willingness to work towards Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management (if not already held).
- Experience working with children/young people in a residential setting, particularly those with EBD.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, Children’s Homes Regulations, and Ofsted frameworks.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise staff effectively.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Flexible and able to work some evenings, weekends, and on-call duties as required

Pay: £40,000.00-£43,000.00 per year
